About Kayla Spurlock

My childhood consisted of days spent twirling around the house singing songs to myself (not quite sure how aggravating that was to my family). I loved making up songs at the piano and decided to write my first song when I was eight years old - a grand ol’ tune about a schoolhouse in Eastern Kentucky that had its share of romance and fist throwing.

I grew up to love Nutella (no stopping once the jar is open), country music (marrying Randy Travis is a life goal;), and Peeps…..yes, the sugar-covered bunny and chick marshmallows (they are better stale).

After wrestling with what to major in at university, I finally decided I might be good enough to get a degree in music. I came out on the other side of 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in music education from Eastern Kentucky University, and 2015 with a master’s degree in music education from Brigham Young University, both with a choral conducting emphasis.

I have taught general music classes and choirs for the past fourteen years in my local school district and I LOVE it! I DARE anyone to say they have a better job than I do - singing all day long and playing games with children is a little slice of heaven.
